DELAWARE HOSPITAL SHOOTING SUSPECT JOHN WALLACE-BEY IDENTIFIED AND TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN PHILADELPHIA

DELAWARE HOSPITAL SHOOTING SUSPECT JOHN WALLACE-BEY IDENTIFIED AFTER DEADLY ATTACK THAT LEFT ONE EMPLOYEE DEAD

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE — Authorities have identified 23-year-old John Wallace-Bey of New Castle, Delaware, as the suspect accused of carrying out a deadly shooting inside Wilmington Hospital on June 16.

According to Wilmington Police, officers responded to reports of gunfire inside the hospital at approximately 3:30 p.m. Investigators say Wallace-Bey allegedly opened fire on two 19-year-old hospital employees, killing one and critically injuring the other before fleeing the scene. The surviving victim remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Authorities have not yet publicly released the identities of either victim.

SUSPECT CAPTURED AFTER MULTI-STATE MANHUNT

Following the shooting, law enforcement launched a search that extended into neighboring Pennsylvania. Investigators tracked Wallace-Bey to Philadelphia, where he was taken into custody later that evening without incident.

Police say Wallace-Bey is expected to be extradited back to Delaware, where he will face charges including First-Degree Murder, Attempted First-Degree Murder, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon.

Authorities have stated the shooting appears to have been a targeted and isolated act rather than a random attack. Wallace-Bey previously worked at Wilmington Hospital as a technology intern, according to investigators and employment records reviewed by local media. Reports indicate he had been terminated from his position earlier the same day, though investigators have not officially identified a motive.

The shooting triggered a lockdown across the hospital campus as armed officers conducted a room-by-room search of the facility. Emergency operations were temporarily disrupted, and patients were diverted while law enforcement secured the scene. The lockdown was lifted later that evening after authorities determined there was no ongoing threat to the public.

INVESTIGATION REMAINS ACTIVE

Wilmington Police say the investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue gathering evidence and preparing charges. Officials have not released additional details regarding a possible motive, and authorities are expected to provide further updates as the case moves through the court system.
